ADDITIONAL AND ONGOING PROJECTS
1. The FEDC sponsors a Welcome Wagon with volunteers visiting all new families that move to the community. In addition to the visit, they are given a brochure telling about community organizations, churches, and services that are offered as well as scheduled times when various offices are open and services are available.2. Each September, all families new to the community are invited to a potluck supper in the school commons to meet other members of the community. The honored guests do not have to bring food and are treated by what is brought by the rest of the community. Usually around 100 people attend the event.
3. Each year, the Farnam Lions Club organizes the Community Carnival that is usually held in February or March in the school gym. All organizations in town, including the FIF club, Firemen, EMTs, FEDC, North Aid club, American Legion Auxiliary, Founders Car Show Committee and all school classes 6-12, run the kitchen and have booths and games for people to play. The money raised, which is usually in the neighborhood of $3,000, is used to fund school scholarships and community projects. The fund has helped establish the Senior/Community Center, put playground equipment in the park and help pay for the new fire truck. Some of the fund was also used to help purchase the new “used” Christmas decorations. Money from this activity has also been used for community clean-up costs, new picnic tables for community use, and funding some tree board activities.
4. Founders’ Days is held each year on the 4th weekend in June. The committee that organizes the celebration is a sub-committee of the FEDC. The weekend includes a parade on Saturday morning, lunch in the park with entertainment and games following.
